Painted Polypropylene Store-in-Door™ Traditional and Crossbuck model doors purchased prior to September 2002 may be painted using the following technique:

  • Lightly sand the storm door with a 300- to 500-grit wet/dry sandpaper, just enough to roughen the surface. Do not sand down to bare door material, and do not sand out the simulated wood-grain texture of the door.
  • Clean the storm door with a mild solution of soap and water. Rinse and let dry thoroughly. Wipe the storm door with a clean, dry, soft cloth to remove any dust or residue.
  • Use a high-quality, premium exterior semi-gloss latex paint.
  • Apply paint in multiple light coats, making certain to allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next. If you have a paint sprayer available, this will provide the best, most even coverage.
  • Be sure to follow all label instructions supplied with the paint. Remember, it will take several days for any paint to reach its full hardness.
Special care should be taken during this time to avoid marring the door.

Polypropylene Store-in-Door™ Traditional and Crossbuck model doors with molded-through color purchased after September 2002 are not paintable.
